Description
How can film locations be explored without traveling on site? And how can digital environments support more efficient production workflows?
Digital Locations focuses on the creation of virtual versions of real-world film locations. By using technologies such as LiDAR scanning and photogrammetry, physical environments are transformed into detailed 3D models that can be used within film and entertainment productions.
A key objective of the project is to make location scouting more flexible and resource-efficient. Instead of repeatedly visiting and scanning a location, a single capture process is enough to build a reusable digital environment. Lighting conditions, weather situations, and visual variations can then be adjusted digitally within the platform.
To support production planning, the system also incorporates geospatial and environmental data such as sun position and natural lighting. This allows creative teams to preview and evaluate scenes under different conditions before filming begins.
The platform is further connected to tools for scene planning, visualization, and real-time rendering, enabling interactive workflows throughout different stages of production.
